For a project where we had to paint something you don't often see in mainstream glamorous media. I chose to depict an obese woman asserting her sexuality because you so often see things like guys saying "no fat chicks" or condemnation of overweight people wearing clothes that are deemed too revealing. You rarely see the sexualization of larger women in mainstream media. I chose to hide her eyes so that the viewer has to guess whether her expression is assertive, comfortable, and challenging or whether she is ashamed of her body - I felt that showing her eyes would be too revealing.
It was kind of funny, how in painting it I got so desensitized to it, but whenever my friends or family came across it for the first time they had rather shocked/hilarious reactions

I named her Ursula... she just looked like an "Ursula" to me.

I'm actually really pleased how this came out..
